Heritage rules usually save whole buildings; here they saved only the front, which leaves an ornate stage-set of arches and shells bolted onto an ordinary street. Fitting, somehow, for a shop that made funerary monuments.
Near Madrid's Plaza Mayor, on Calle Concepción Jerónima, stands the elaborate carved façade of Mármoles Molina, a former business that made tombstones and funerary monuments. When the building behind it was demolished, the protected frontage had to be rebuilt in place, so it now fronts a very different interior.
